Oatmeal & Raisin Cookies - crispy on the outside & chewy on the inside

I’ve always loved oatmeal—nothing says “good morning” quite like a warm, creamy bowl to start the day. Oats are widely known for their many health benefits, which is why I try to incorporate them into our meals regularly, whether in dosas, idlis, breads, or cookies. Oatmeal cookies, however, are a classic enjoyed around the world. They’re especially delicious with raisins, though chocolate chips make a wonderful substitute for those who prefer them. What I love most is the irresistible aroma of cinnamon that fills the house as these cookies bake—a fragrance that makes the whole experience even more delightful. A popular theory for the origin of oatmeal raisin cookies is that they descended from Scottish/British oat cakes. In war times, soldiers would carry oat cakes to battle with them for boosts of energy during battle. The first recipe for these goodies was written by Fannie Merritt Farmer in 1896. Oatmeal raisin cookies are also often considered a “health food,” especially it...

A Happy "Smiley" Birthday Cake

Sometimes I'm in a mood for some cleaning up. I know, it sounds crazy.....c'mon, I don't think anyone likes to do it. But, honestly.... once in a while..... I do get into the mood to clear away all the clutters and make room for some new things. So, it would be our wardrobes one time or another time it would be my kitchen. It's always a starting trouble....but when I do get it started...I go on a cleaning spree....and thankfully, Mr. Peter doesn't come in my way. And at the end of it.....when everything is done I feel so glad and content. So why am I speaking of my little madness here??? Well I had to clean up stuff from my computer, the other day.  With so much data stored up....the processor was slowing down.....all gizmo stuff! It was getting hard to work on it. So had put my mind to sort out a lot of things and organise and backup all of the data.......to erase the unnecessary and save the needed ones. And while in that process, l spotted some old snaps ...

Basic Mini Muffins - with chocolate frosting and sprinkles

There’s something irresistibly charming about a mini muffin. Bite-sized, soft, and perfectly portioned, they carry all the joy of a full-sized treat in a tiny, delightful package. But when you crown that tender crumb with a sprinkle of chocolate magic, you elevate it into a moment of pure happiness. Chocolate sprinkles mini muffins are the kind of treat that feels playful yet indulgent. They’re perfect for school lunchboxes, coffee breaks, or as a cheerful addition to a brunch spread. Each bite offers a balance of moist, fluffy muffin and the subtle crunch of sprinkles that melt into a sweet chocolatey finish. The name “muffin” either comes from the German word “muffe” or from the French word “moufflet”, meaning soft bread. A muffin is an individual-sized, baked product. It can refer to two distinct items, a part-raised flatbread and a cupcake-like quick bread. The flatbread is of British or European derivation, and dates from at least the early 18th century, while the quick br...

Quiche: The Anytime Meal

There are times when the rhythm of everyday meals—those familiar staples we turn to again and again—can start to feel a little monotonous. It’s in those moments that introducing something new to the table makes all the difference. A fresh dish not only breaks the monotony but also brings a sense of excitement and variety to the table, turning dinner into a more enjoyable occasion. Quiche is one such dish. Warm, comforting, and full of flavor, it makes for a delightful alternative to everyday meals. Served straight from the oven, it offers a satisfying balance of texture and taste. While weeknight dinners often make it challenging for families to gather together, this dish is especially enjoyable when shared at the table, creating a moment of togetherness around something special. Although quiche is now a classic dish of French cuisine, quiche actually originated in Germany, in the medieval kingdom of Lothringen, under German rule, and which the French later renamed Lorraine. The wor...

Mini chocolate fruit tarts

Dessert always finds a place at the table—especially when it comes in bite-sized portions. Little indulgences mean you can sample a variety of treats without committing to just one. Why settle for a single slice of cake when you could enjoy a petite parfait, a tiny tart, a mini mousse, or a charming little cupcake? These adorable mini chocolate fruit cups capture that spirit perfectly. Elegant yet playful, they add color, flavor, and a touch of whimsy to any dessert spread, making them a delightful highlight for gatherings or celebrations. The ingredients are easily available....... all we need is chocolate, some cupcake paper liners, honey, fresh cream and colourful fruits. I used kiwi, peach and pomegranate here. I love the colour combination of green, yellow & red. Ingredients: For the Chocolate Cups: 100gms Dark Chocolate (Chopped) Cupcake liners (about 25 - 30 small size) For the Filling: 1 Cup Fresh Cream   Fresh Fruits (I used kiwi, peach & pomegranate)...

Panna Cotta with raspberry jelly - time for some mini celebrations

I absolutely love mini desserts. And making little desserts......gives me immense joy. I had got these small glasses from my mom long back and always wondered what I would with them.  But when I started making miniature desserts using these glasses....it has been a regular thing at most of the get togethers and parties that happen at home. So during one of those special occasions, I made a mini dessert with panna cotta and raspberry jelly. I really like the colour combination of red and white.  It appeared very "Valentiny" (if that's a word). It looked fabulous.....tasted great.....and my guests were happy.  So, here's the recipe: First step is to make the raspberry jelly. You can use the ready to make packs, that are easily available at the markets. Just follow the instructions on the pack....and the jelly would be ready in minutes. And pour them into little glasses.  Now for that presentation look. Place the glasses diagonally in a large serving plate and k...

Singapore is a remarkable destination, perfect for a family vacation. With countless attractions and activities, it offers endless opportunities for exploration—you could spend weeks there and still have plenty left to discover on your next visit. Traveling around is effortless thanks to its excellent transportation system, and the widespread use of English makes communication simple. Beyond its convenience, Singapore stands out for its cleanliness, orderliness, and welcoming atmosphere, making it one of the easiest and most enjoyable places to visit. The English name of Singapore is an anglicisation of the native Malay name for the country, Singapura, which was in turn derived from Sanskrit: Simhapura ; simha is "lion", pura is "town" or "city", hence the customary reference to the nation as the Lion City. We visited Singapore back in 2013.  We had an incredible time, filled with excitement right from the moment we began packing. The thrill c...
